MARION, Iowa (KWWL) - Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and Iowa State Senator Liz Mathis have released fundraising numbers from their campaigns in Iowa's new second Congressional District. Mathis is challenging Hinson for the seat in the new district.

Hinson says she raised more than $809,000 during the 4th quarter of 2021, which her office says is a 4th quarter Iowa Congressional off-year campaign record. Mathis said she raised over $550,000 in the 4th quarter of 2021.

Hinson raised more than $1 million in the 3rd quarter of 2021 and now has nearly $1.6 million cash-on-hand for her campaign. Mathis says she has $930,000 cash-on-hand and $1.19 million total raised.

In a statement, Hinson, said, “I am overwhelmed by the support our campaign continues to receive from Iowans who are fed up with the out-of-touch policies handed down by Speaker Pelosi.”

Hinson says the average 4th quarter donation was $50.00 and that she picked up 6,000 new donors in the 4th quarter. She reports more than 96% of her donations for 2021 were $100.00 or less.

Mathis also provided a statement, thanking her supporters, “I want to thank the thousands of supporters who pitched in what they could during what I know continues to be a challenging time for many -- you have helped propel us into an even stronger grassroots organizing machine, poised to win in November. It is time to take Iowa values of truth and fairness back to Washington and create an Iowa where farmers and small businesses -- and all Iowa workers -- can thrive.”
