UNI's Penning and Brinkman Walter Camp All-Americans

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI football's Trevor Penning and Jared Brinkman cracked the list of the Walter Camp Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team.   
This is the eighth national team for Penning, and the sixth national team for Brinkman.
 
Penning was the only offensive lineman to be named as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is presented to the national offensive player of the year in college football's Division I subdivision. He was the first player to be invited to the Reese's Senior Bowl set to for Feb. 5.

He was part of an offensive line that allowed 36 sacks and a loss of 231 yards on the season and went 25-for-30 on red zone attempts-scores. He helped the team gain 1,686 rushing yards and 2,679 passing yards.

He was named to multiple all-America teams: Walter Camp FCS All-America Team / Offensive Line, HERO Sports' FCS All-American First Team Offense, 2021 Associated Press All-America Football Team, FCS ADA 2021 All-America Team, Stats Perform FCS All-America Team, 2021 AFCA FCS Coaches' All-America Team, Athlon FCS All-America team, Phil Steele FCS All-America first team offense / offensive lineman of the year. He also earned the Phil Steele all-MVFC first team offense / offensive lineman of the year and was on the All-MFVC First Team for Offense.

Penning is from Clear Lake, Iowa, and majored in movement and exercise science. He is the son of Jeff and Teresa Penning. His brother, Jared, also plays on the UNI football team.

Brinkman is a two-time MVFC Defensive Player of the Year, having received his second consecutive honor this year. He also earned the Phil Steele FCS All-MVFC First Team Honors and Defensive Player of the Year.  

He was also named to the AP FCS All-America team, HERO Sports' FCS All-America Team, Athlon FCS All-America, AFCA FCS Coaches All-America team, Phil Steele All-America First Team defense.
Brinkman notched 22 solo sacks and assisted on 51 this season. He led the team with 15 tackles for a loss of 50 yards. He was second on the team for sacks with seven. He had 14 tackles against South Dakota on Oct. 16. Brinkman forced a fumble and recovered a fumble during the season.

Brinkman was a senior majoring in physical education. He is a graduate of Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa. He is the son of Mike and Carla Brinkman.
