UNI quarterback Will McElvain completes a tough pass against Iowa State in 2021

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Will McElvain's career at Northern Iowa has come to an end. The former two-year starter announced his attention to transfer on his twitter feed Monday morning.

McElvain's decision comes after he lost his starting role to Michigan State transfer Theo Day in week three.

McElvain, a Des Moines native, initially won the starting job as a freshman in 2019. He went on that year to set a pair of program freshman records throwing for 2,787 yards and 20 touchdowns. He led that team to the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs.
