Grundy Center blanks N. Tama 28-0

(GRUNDY CENTER - KWWL)

Grundy Center used a stout defense and converted on key plays to blank N. Tama 28-0 Friday night. With the victory, the Spartans clinched the Class A, District 4 championship. The Spartans offense started strong on Senior Night in Grundy Center. On the first drive of the game, senior QB Logan Knaack connected with WR Colin Gordon on a 3 yard TD pass to open the scoring. Big plays were the name of the game for the Redhawks. Unfortunately for N. Tama, long runs and passes by QB Gabe Kopriva were stopped short of the end zone. That includes a goal line stand for the Spartans in the last minute of the first half. The Redhawks had the ball inside the 5 yard line, but the Spartans stopped the Redhawks on 3 consecutive plays before the clock ran out for halftime. After the intermission, the Spartans took the first possession of the 3rd quarter and drove down the field, converting that drive into 6 points. From there, they didn't look back. Both teams will advance to the playoffs next week, with Grundy Center expected to host a first-round playoff game.
