Waverly-Shell Rock whips Decorah 26-7

WAVERLY (KWWL)--In a showdown for the Class 4A, District 2 title, the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks used a stout defense to whip Decorah 26-7 to claim the crown on their home field. The Go-Hawks struck first as their opening drive of the game ended with a 20-yard Asa Newsom TD run. After forcing a Viking fumble, the Go-Hawks went straight to the air as senior QB Grant Halverson connected with Simon Ott on a 20-yard TD pass to make the score 14-0. In the 2nd quarter, the Go-Hawks used field position to their advantage. After pinning the Vikings insdie the 1 after a punt, Waverly-Shell Rock's defense forced a Decorah punt, then capped a 37 yard drive with a 3 yard TD run from McCrae Hagarty to put the home team ahead 20-0 going into halftime. In the 2nd half, both teams traded touchdowns to make the final score 26-7.
