MCGREGOR, Iowa (KWWL) -- Following a fire at the birthplace home of the Ringling Brothers, the current owner is hoping to rebuild the historic house.

The fire happened on December 2nd, and responding fire officials called it a total loss. However, McGregor city officials are helping how they can.

Duane Boelman, a Deputy Clerk for McGregor and member of the city's Historic Preservation Commission, plans to reach out to state officials next week to see if they can help.

"I'm planning on maybe contacting the State Historic Preservation Office tomorrow to see if they have any resources or any, any ideas what might be done," he said. "So hopefully, it will be saved"

However, he said that until a structural engineer looks at the home, it is too early to know if the historic building is salvageable.
