Human remains found near Jefferson County lake believed to have been there over a year

FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KWWL) -- Authorities are investigating decomposed human remains that were found near train tracks south of Walton Lake in Jefferson County on Friday, April 8. 

The lake is just outside Fairfield. 

A release from the Jefferson County Attorney says that the remains were found in an "advanced state of decomposition" and authorities believe they have been there for a year or longer.

The remains are suspected to be those of a man, but they have not been identified and no cause of death has been determined. 

The release says that the cause of death has not been determined but no evidence of foul play has been found from initial investigations.
