Cedar Falls house fire extinguished after struck by lightning

Cedar Falls lightning strike fire

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) - Cedar Falls fire crews were dispatched to a residential fire on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Carriage Ln. after a tree was struck by lightning next to a house.

The crews on scene discovered smoke emitting from the basement on the west side of the residence.

A large tree next to the house was struck by lightning, damaging the house and igniting a fire next to the house's air conditioning unit.

The homeowners were home at the time of the fire, but were able to exit without injury.

The home suffered minor structural damage to the outside.
