IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) - Iowa City Police responded to Mercer Park on the southeast side of town around 8 p.m. Monday for a "large fight" where several shots were fired.
While in route to the call, officers were advised that witnesses reported multiple shots being fired. Police found evidence of a shooting but say no injuries were reported. Police did not say if anyone was arrested.Â
Around this time, the Iowa City High baseball team was wrapping up a practice on the southeast side of the park. Jenni Mitchell, who has two sons on the team and whose husband Brian is the head coach, says it was a very scary experience.
"It was extremely scary for our team, especially since this is not the first time this has happened at that park," Mitchell told KWWL over text. "We are grateful that there are no physical injuries, and that no one was killed. We are trying to create a positive experience at that park, and create a positive experience for these high school kids."
ICPD says the incident remains under investigation.
