MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (KWWL) - The Mount Vernon High School marching band had one final practice Monday night before heading to the windy city on Tuesday for the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Mustangs will be one of over 20 high school bands from around the country marching in the parade, and the only band from Iowa. The Mustangs have been selected to be in the parade three times since 2016.

"Only the seniors have gone. And so, it's just such a great experience for the younger members of the band and hopefully we get to do more experiences that are bigger and better," Emily Patton said, one of three captains of the color guard.

On Monday, the band marched through a neighborhood on the northern edge of town practicing their set list in cold weather. They stopped at former band director Don Stine's house to perform two songs.
