MONTICELLO, Iowa (KWWL) -- David Costello, the man accused of causing an explosion in his basement, is now facing an arson charge.
A Jones County Deputy was harmed in the blast, but was later released from Jones Regional Medical Center.
New details were also released about how Costello created the blast. According to the criminal complaint, Costello leaked natural gas into the basement, and then lit a propane torch near it.
Monticello police responded to the 62-year-old's home on November 17th, following a domestic call claiming he was threatening to blow up the home with his wife and self inside.
When officers found Costello in the basement, they were unable to reason with him before he set off the explosion.
