  • 0

People from across the state are enjoying the celebration of the summer in Des Moines.

Wednesday marks the seventh day of the Iowa State Fair.

The Fair attracts more than a million people each year. Last year, the Fair had its highest attendance ever, with 1,130,071 people, according to the Fair’s website

The first Iowa State Fair was held in Fairfield, Iowa, in 1854. In 1886, the Fair moved locations to its present address, making the fairgrounds almost 130 years old.

The Fair is celebrating Older Iowans’ Day on Wednesday. Attendees can enjoy special performances and activities planned throughout the day, including cookie decorating and a butter sculpting contest.

On Wednesday, the Central Iowa Tractor Club is also holding an event for farmers to showcase their tractors to the public. A parade procession will follow.

The grounds open are open from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.
