DELAWARE COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) - A Delaware County district court judge has ruled in favor of the Animal Legal Defense Fund in a lawsuit against Cricket Hollow Zoo owner's Pem Sellner.

The judge ordering Sellner to pay a $70,000 fine at a monthly rate of $1,000 or serve 140 days in jail.

If Sellner does not pay the fine, the judge ruled that the Animal Legal Defense FundĀ  has the option of forgoing the collection efforts. In that case, the jail term would be initiated.

In December of 2019, the Animal Legal Defense Fund along with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa coordinated rescue efforts at the Manchester zoo. The two organizations transferred more than 400 animals on the property to rescue partners and sanctuaries across the country.

At the time of the rescue, more than 100 animals were missing from the zoo grounds. As a result, the lawsuit was filed against Sellner for violating the court's order regarding the transfer of certain zoo animals.
