CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids Police are reporting that a man being taken into custody was shot by a bail bondsman as he was attempting to escape, and also hit a bondsman with his car.
Around 4:50 p.m. Friday, two bail bondsman were attempting to take 40-year-old Richard Hamilton Jr. into custody near the Dairy Queen at Wilson Ave. and Bowling St. SW.
Hamilton was wanted on failure to appear warrants related to drug charges.
One of the bondsman shot and injured Hamilton during the attempted arrest, and one of the bondsman was also hit by Hamilton's car as he was attempting to escape.
Officers found Hamilton at a residence in the 2200 block of D St. SW and took him to a hospital for treatment for his injury.
The bondsman that was hit by the car was also taken to the hospital. Both the bondsman and the man shot appear to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that the investigation is ongoing.
