CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids Police confirm that there was a deadly shooting Thursday afternoon.
Police responded to the 300 block of 31st Street Drive S.E. after 2:30 p.m. where they found a male lying in the street, who was determined to be dead from an apparent gunshot wound or wounds.
As of 6 p.m., the street remained blocked off by police who brought in barricades as their active investigation continues.
They say the shooting appears to be a targeted incident and no suspects have been arrested.
The victim's name is being withheld pending family notification.
KWWL spoke to Desiree Springman, a neighbor who said that that her dog went "nuts" after she heard a loud noise.
"I was inside, carried on with my day, and then my neighbor texted us saying that the street was all roped off," Springman said. "So I'm going outside and my roommate saw that there was a dead body laying in the street."
Springman said that her neighborhood is generally pretty safe, and said that lots of kids live in the area.
This is a developing news story.
