July 6: Iowa's total COVID-19 cases passes 800,000

(KWWL) -- There were almost the same amount of new COVID-19 cases reported this week in Iowa compared to those reported last week according to the Iowa Department of Public Health website

There were 3,980 new COVID-19 cases in the past week bringing Iowa's total number of cases to 800,176. That's an average of around 569 new cases per day over the last 7 days.

The COVID-19 death toll on the IDPH website has increased by 15 to 9,703. Deaths reported by the state have generally occurred in the months before the reporting date.

National data from the Department of Health and Human Services shows there are currently 190 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Iowa. That's 28 more hospitalizations than the 162 that the state reported last week. 

The IDPH is updating it's COVID-19 vaccination numbers once a month. As of Wednesday, IDPH data shows 59.1% of Iowa's total population being vaccinated against COVID-19. Since June 8, There were 7,418 more Iowans that completed their vaccine series for a total of 1,940,421. In total, 1,069,826 Iowans who are fully vaccinated have gotten a booster dose, which is 17,280 more from last month.
