CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Former Cedar Falls City Council member Tom Blanford has announced his candidacy for mayor in the November 2021 election.

Blanford was elected to City Council in 2015 after serving for three years on the Cedar Falls Human Rights Commission. He is currently working as the vice president of administration for Collins Holding Company in Cedar Falls. Blanford also works with multiple local organizations in the Cedar Valley.

"Cedar Falls is a fantastic place to call home, benefiting from generations of leaders and volunteers who worked together to make a common goal. It's time for our community to come together again and decide what we want Cedar falls to look like for the next generation."

A campaign release says that his goals will include focusing on the city's core neighborhoods, developing new public-private partnerships, and building a community support structure for healthcare access.

Current Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green was elected in 2019 and was also a former City Council member. Green announced on Wednesday he is seeking reelection in November.
