WAVERLY (KWWL) -- It promised to be a Valentine's Day to remember, and it certainly was.  More than 350 people turned out for the 13th annual ‘Have a Heart for Kids Ball and Auction' Saturday, February 14, at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly. This popular annual event proved to be a record-setting evening for Lutheran Services in Iowa. This year's Lutheran Services in Iowa Heart Ball and Auction raised a record $ 53,500.

The annual a night of entertainment, fun, food and fundraising helps benefit the Lutheran Services in Iowa Bremwood Residential Treatment Center in Waverly. This vital Waverly facility and treatment center serves Iowa's at-risk children, ages 12-18, some of whom have severe behavioral and/or emotional disorders.

The special evening at Centennial Oaks featured both live and silent auctions, with more than 300 auction items donated this year by businesses and individuals. In addition, a Las Vegas giveaway was raffled off to one lucky winner.

Iowa Hall of Fame Rock and Roll Band, Milk & Honey, once again provided the musical entertainment, along with performances by ‘The Piano Men.' This year's event took party-goers back in time for a fun-filled night of 60's magic through this year's theme; ‘All We Need is Love.'

As always, a highlight of the evening featured several emotional and inspirational stories from Bremwood children themselves. Residents of the Bremwood Residential Treatment Center courageously shared their hopeful and heartwarming personal accounts of their struggles and dreams for better lives, and in some cases, finding new families.

Heart Ball Co-Chair, Amy Roling, says, "The Have a Heart for Kids Ball' is a great opportunity to be a part of instilling hope, a sense of belonging and the chance for a brighter future to the youth on the LSI Bremwood campus."
