Former Creston chief testifies at trial

SIOUX CITY (AP)--A former Creston police chief says he didn't see any sexual assault by his assistant chief.

James Christensen testified Wednesday that he was outside the Crestmoor Country Club urinating when the alleged assault occurred.

Christensen and former assistant chief John Sickels are charged with second-degree sexual assault for the April 18 incident. Prosecutors say Sickels raped the woman while Christensen watched.

Christensen testified that he met the woman several days later at her request and secretly recorded their conservation because he feared she would try to blackmail him.

He told jurors that in retrospect he would have taken a report from the woman after she complained.

The defense rested its case on Wednesday.

The trial was moved to Sioux City because of pretrial publicity.
