Linn-Mar fans weigh in on decision to suspend star

DES MOINES (KWWL) - A Linn-Mar senior basketball stand-out is learning a lesson...the hard way.

Nate Hutcheson, senior co-captain, has been cited by Marion police for disorderly house for events related to what's being called an "incident" at his home.

Two Linn-Mar students were charged with underage drinking in relation to this "incident".  And because of it all, Hutcheson has been suspended from the team.

The team's second-leading scorer arrived with the team in Des Moines for Wednesday night's state quarterfinal game with Cedar Falls.  Hutcheson was introduced before the game as a non-starter.

The senior will be reduced to spectator for the entirety of Linn-Mar's run at state.  The school was quick to act in its decision to suspend him, ending his high school career.

Reactions have been mixed among students and fans about the decision, but many feel it's the right move.

"He should realize all the kids that look up to him, elementary kids and if you don't suspend him what lesson does he learn?" said Linn-Mar senior Kevin Lassen.

"I think it's the right decision.  I think the school has a policy.  I think it's the right thing to do," agreed Linn-Mar fan Arnie Plathe.
