Coralville takes next steps towards performing arts center

CORALVILLE (KWWL) - The city of Coralville is well on its way to building a center for the perfomring arts. It's the first of its kind to come to Coralville.

Wednesday night community leaders unveiled plans for the 500 seat complex which will be built on the corner of 12th Avenue and 5th Street.

The center for the Performing Arts is estimated to cost the city $10 million dollars to build, and will focus on community-based theater

"All people here in the greater Coralville community that have a presence. It's not about brining in acts from out of town, we want this to be very much a community-focused building," said Sherri Proud, Director of Parks and Recreation for Coralville.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 1st, but city leaders don't expect the building to be occupied until the end of 2010.
