Congressman Loebsack joins effort

(Washington, DC-KWWL) Iowa Second District Congressman Dave Loebsack today joined 40 members of the bipartisan Congressional Rural Caucus, sending a letter to President Barack Obama, calling for the White House to establish an Office of Rural Policy.

"The unique policy matters faced in rural America include, but are not limited to, specific concerns regarding agriculture, conservation, economic development, education, health care, information technology, and transportation infrastructure, among others. We are sure your administration would benefit from an office devoted to the effect of federal regulations on rural Americans and our communities," stated the letter.

"The issues that our rural communities face are unique, as Iowans balance working within an  increasingly global market while revamping and rebuilding our farms, businesses, roads and schools," said Congressman Loebsack. "I join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to strongly urge President Obama to make sure that our rural areas are part of the equation."

The Congressional Rural Caucus is a bipartisan working group of members dedicating to addressing the issues facing America's rural communities. The body serves collectively to address challenges rural communities face, promoting legislation that takes into account policy measures beneficial to rural areas.

The letter serves as a response to the recent announcement by President Obama creating a White House Office of Urban Policy.
