Former Iowa official charged in prostitution sting

WEST DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A prostitution sting in West Des Moines nabs 13, including a former state official and an attorney for an Iowa counties association.

Gov. Chet Culver's spokesman Phil Roeder says police arrested Armando Villareal, the former head of the state's Division of Latino Affairs, on February 18th.

Two days earlier, officers arrested David Vestal, general counsel for the Iowa State Association of Counties. Executive Director Bill Peterson says the group put Vestal on leave pending an evaluation of the situation.

Police say they set up the sting after complaints from management at Westown Parkway Residences about the number of visitors at one room.

A telephone number for Villareal is disconnected. A message left for Vestal from the Associated Press was not immediately returned.
