Groups seek change in Iowa's fraud laws

DES MOINES (KWWL) - Advocates for seniors are joining with prosecutors in seeking a change in Iowa law to allow individuals to sue under Iowa's anti-fraud laws.

Supporters of the change say Iowa is the only state in the nation that doesn't give its citizen this right.

AARP volunteers and the Iowa attorney general's office held a news conference Wednesday to press the Legislature to change the law.

The attorney general's office estimates up to 5,000 Iowans are victims of individual fraud schemes each year. They can't now file fraud claims individually to recover their losses.
