Cedar Rapids experiences minor flooding

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)- The weekend's rain has caused minor flooding issues in Cedar Rapids

Public Works Maintenance Manager Craig Hanson says the city accumulated close to three inches of rain as of Monday night causing a few closures due to flooding.

Fish Court on the Southwest side and Manhattan Park in Northwest Cedar Rapids were closed on Tuesday.  Weather forecasts predict the Cedar River will crest Thursday at ten and a half feet.  Hanson expects Otis Road to be temporarliy shut down during that time.

Hanson says minor flooding during the spring is not out of the ordinary.

"On average you'd get 3 to 4 floods every single year.  So the fact that we have a ten foot river crest coming this time of the year is not abnormal and it's something we expect," said Hanson.

On Sunday, water in Prairie Creek in Southwest Cedar Rapids went out of its banks and forced the closure of J Street Southwest.  The road has since reopened.
