Smoking ban critics speak out

DES MOINES (AP) - Critics of Iowa's indoor smoking ban are pressing lawmakers to back a bill easing the restriction because they claim it violates the state constitution.

Larry Duncan owns a West Burlington tavern and has been a leading opponents of the ban. He came to the Statehouse on Tuesday to support a bill by Columbus Junction Rep. Tom Sands that would ease the restriction.

He says the law isn't favored by most Iowans despite what legislative leaders and the governor claim.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines says proposed changes to the law won't be taken up this year.
