Maple Syrup Festival - KWWL - Eastern Iowa Breaking News, Weather, Closings

Maple Syrup Festival

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The rain didn't keep everyone inside Saturday.  One group of Cub Scouts enjoyed a walk through the muddy woods collecting maple syrup at the Hartman Reserve's annual Maple Syrup Festival in Cedar Falls.

After a demonstration on how the syrup is made, the first graders collected sap from all 165 buckets on the reserve.  It takes ten gallons of sap to boil down to one quart of maple syrup.

Meanwhile, much of the public that attended opted out of the mud and enjoyed fresh flapjacks with homemade maple syrup and the indoor demonstrations.

The festival will also be going on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and for the first time in the 24 years of the festival, the homemade syrup is also on sale.
