Man charged with accepting packages containing marijuana

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids man faces drug charges after police say he accepted pot in the mail.

The controlled delivery was made Thursday by members of the Cedar Rapids Police Department Narcotics Unit along with members of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on Center Point Rd. N.E.

Police say 26-year old Joab Upah accepted the delivery of 16-pounds of marijuana in two packages addressed to him.

Upah is charged with possession with the intent to deliver marijuana, and drug tax stamp.

Police say Upah's girlfriend, 23-year old Tara Upchurh who was also at the residence at the time of the delivery was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia for items that were located in her purse.

Both were taken to the Hinzman Center for processing.
