Grant county grave-digging case ends in mistrial

LANCASTER, WIS. (KWWL) -- A Grant county grave-digging case has ended in a mistrial, with jurors deadlocked on the last of three counts -- attempted third-degree sexual assault.

That means Alexander Grunke will have to be taken back to trial, something a disappointed Grant County prosecutor says he intends to do.

Grunke was found guilty on the first two counts -- criminal damage to a cemetary and attempted misdeameanor theft.

According to court documents, after reading an obituary of 20-year-old Laura Tennessen Alexander Grunke, his twin brother Nicholas Grunke, and Dustin Radke went to a Cassvukke cemetary to dig up her remains.

No word yet on how the mistrial will affect the court proceedings for Nicholas Grunke, who was scheduled to be tried after his brother.
