Cell Phone Recycling: calling small electronics

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The cell phone recycling program that's helped senior centers across the country raise money is now also collecting and recycling small electronics.

The Iowa City Senior Center has taken part in the program and raised more than $3,000 in the past two years.  The center says addition of small electronics recycling will allow it to raise even more money for its programs.

The National Council on Aging and Cellular Recycler run the recycling program.  Senior centers all across the country collect the electronics and mail them to the recycling center in exchange for a reward.  The Cellular Recycler then breaks down the electronics for materials or refurbishes them to send to developing countries.

You will find collection boxes in the Iowa City Fairway stores, the Iowa City and Coralville Co-op stores, Iowa City, City Hall and in the lobby of the Senior Center.
