Drinking wine may prevent cancer

(KWWL) -- New research finds a daily glass of wine may protect you from cancer of the esophagus.

A Kaiser Permanente study found people who drank one or two glasses of wine a day lowered their risk of developing Barrett's Esophagus by 56-percent.

Barrett's is a pre-cursor to esophageal cancer that occurs when heartburn or acid reflux damages the lining of the esophagus.

People with the condition are 30 to 40 times more likely to develop esophageal cancer.

Beer and liquor did not have the same protective effects.
