More Iowans could benefit from mortgage hotline

Waterloo (KWWL) - Iowa has resources to help people stay in their homes, but state officials say it's not being used.

The Iowa Mortgage Help Hotline has aided thousands of Iowans, but attorney general tom miller says many more could be helped. Miller says thanks to the hotline, Iowa foreclosures increased 9-percent, compared to a national increase of 33-percent.

The hotline takes thousands of calls each year, and only 6-percent end in foreclosure.

"It's a human emotion to pull back, and denial in this sort of situation," Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller said.

You can call the toll-free hotline at 877-622-4866. The hotline is free, confidential, and open to all Iowans.
