Iowa City police officer faces charges

Iowa City (KWWL) - An Iowa City Police Sergeant faces criminal charges of drunken driving and resisting arrest.  University of Iowa Police arrested Sid Jackson around 4 a.m. at the corner of Iowa and Muscatine Avenues.  A criminal complaint says officers noticed Jackson sitting in his car with the door open.  They say he smelled of alcohol and admitted drinking but denied driving.  It says when officers went to give him a breath test he refused then wouldn't get in the officer's patrol car.  It says Jackson pulled away from officers as he was being put in handcuffs and was injured in the process.  Jackson is a longtime officer in the Iowa City Police Department but had been demoted from the rank of lieutenant.  Iowa City Police say they've launched its own investigation into what happened.
