Obama: tax cuts will be felt by April 1

WASHINGTON (KWWL) - President Barack Obama said some Americans can expect fatter paychecks by April 1.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said tax cuts from the economic stimulus bill will start taking effect in just a matter of weeks. He said the Treasury Department has begun directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld.

Obama said in six weeks, a typical family will start taking home at least $65 extra each month. He says 95 percent of working families will see the extra money.

Obama said the stimulus bill is "only a first step on the road to economic recovery," and that the country, "cannot fail to complete the journey."
