Stimulus Signing Means Buchanan County Jobs

(Des Moines-KWWL) Iowa Democratic State Representative Gene Ficken says the Federal Stimulus bill signed this week by President Barack Obama will create jobs in Buchanan County almost immediately. Buchanan County is slated to receive some $ 1-million designated for county road work. The Iowa Department of Transportation earmarked the stimulus money for bridge replacement over Bear Creek on Iowa Highway 150.

Representative Ficken says, "The stimulus grant will have an immediate impact, by creating jobs and improving infrastructure in our community. This money to improve Iowa's infrastructure puts our state ahead of many others in moving the economy forward."

The Iowa D-O-T has awarded 19 contracts worth $ 56.6 million dollars in bridge and highway projects. Work begins as soon as weather conditions allow.
