Man arrested after hitting deputy with tree limb

ASBURY (KWWL) - KWWL's coverage partner, the Telegraph Herald, reports that a man fleeing a domestic assault resisted arrest and hit Dubuque County Sheriff's Deputies with a tree limb Thursday, injuring the law enforcement officials, authorities said.

Investigators have identified the man as 34-year-old Eric Thomas.

According to the newspaper, around 1:15 p.m., the man picked up a tree limb and hit three deputies with it near the Heritage Manor Apartments in Asbury, Captain Bob Lynn of the Sheriff's Department said.

The Sheriff's Office said Thomas had been involved in a domestic assault at the Asbury Meadows apartment building 2325 Radford Road and fled on foot. When deputies caught up to him, he resisted arrest.

The deputies were expected to be treated and released from a local hospital today, Lynn said. The woman who was the subject of the domestic assault call was transported to The Finley Hospital. There was no immediate word on her condition, though Lynn said it didn't appear to be life-threatening.
