Government money toward bridges and jobs

WATERLOO (KWWL)--The Iowa Northern Railroad bridge has been in the Cedar River since the floods of 2008-- costing millions of dollars to the Iowa Northern Railroad because of detours.

 Today 1st district Representative Bruce Braley came to Waterloo today to get a look firsthand and meet with local officials to discuss how to finance the repairs.  Earlier estimates on the bridge show that could add up to 5.6 million dollars.

 Obama's recovery act will include a 1.5 million dollar grant program that the Iowa Northern Railroad along can apply for.

 This grant program will create 3,700 jobs, such as construction, in the 1st district alone.

Braley commented, "Except along the Mississippi, Missouri river practically every community is where they are because oif rail and I'd like to say its time for us to go back to the future and recommit the resources we need to rebuild the our rail infrastructure because its going to be a vital part of this country's future..."
