Getting college loans in Iowa

Waterloo (KWWL) - The stimulus plan increases tax credits for college loans.

February is an important month in paying for college. This is the time of year when parents and students fill out federal student aid applications. FAFSA helps determine your eligibility for aid. The earlier you file, the more opportunity you'll have to get grants and scholarships.

The Iowa College Student Aid Commission says although the state economy is rough, you can still receive financial aid in Iowa.

"The student loan program here in Iowa is pretty solid. The federal student loans we're not reallly concerned about those at all, those come from the federal government. We hope some lenders here in Iowa and national lenders who kind of stepped up to the plate to make sure that our federal student loan program is pretty solid," Brenda Easter, Iowa College Student Aid said.

The loan commission says tightening credit has made it more difficult to get private college loans.
