Advocates want stray cuts fixed in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) -- Animal advocates are pushing to catch and fix stray cats found in homes abandoned after last year's record flooding in Cedar Rapids.

Stray cats tend to move into colonies in abandoned buildings and breed, which could mean a flood of kittens this spring.

Mark Blount of the Iowa Humane Alliance says the plan to neuter or spay and release the stray cats will stop the breeding cycle and decrease the number of cats. Blount is seeking the city's approval to move ahead with the plan.
