UPDATE: Four injured during possible chemical leak

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Four people were hospitalized following a possible chemical leak at a Cedar Rapids corn processing plant.

Fire officials say four workers at the Archer Daniels Midlands plant complained of respiratory problems at about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The contractors had been working on the roof of the plant's refinery department.

As a precaution, about 75 workers were evacuated from the plant.

Fire crews and a hazardous materials team used monitors to test the area and found no hazardous materials.

Officials say they don't know the cause of the illnesses but it could be exposure to either sulfur dioxide or hydrochloric acid. All four contractors were released from the hospital by Wednesday afternoon. Two sustained serious injuries.

An ADM safety team is investigating.
