Audit questions spending by Monticello ambulance service

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The State Auditor released a report on Tuesday claiming the Monticello Ambulance Service paid more than $59,000 in improper disbursements from July 2005 to November 2007.

The city administrator requested the investigation after ambulance staff suspected an employee was paid for time worked while she was actually working at a hospital in Wisconsin and taking flying lessons.

According to the report, the improper spending included payroll to the employee, Debi Oldaker-Tedrow. It also included the purchase of home exercise equipment by the employee's husband, who worked as the ambulance service's director, a laptop computer, a meat and cheese tray and cell phone downloads.

The report indicates the city hired a private investigator to track the employee when she was scheduled to be working for the ambulance service.
