Report: Iowa's gun laws miss the mark

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A new report says Iowa's gun control laws are off target.

The Brady Campaign gave Iowa a 16 out of 100 points in gun control, ranking it 17th in the country. California had the highest score.

The campaign is named for James Brady, the Press Secretary for Ronald Reagan who was shot during John Hinckley, Jr. 1981 assassination attempt on Reagan. Brady suffered permanent disability. The incident inspired him to lobby for gun control.

Iowa recieved low marks in efforts to curb fire-arm trafficking, requiring background checks and limits on assault riffles. But scored well for regulating guns in public places.
