Absentee Ballots Now Available in Linn County

Several key deadlines are fast approaching in connection with Linn County's Local Option Sales Tax Special Election on March 3. Linn County voters, except residents of Bertram, Central City, Coggon and Prairieburg, will go to the polls Tuesday, March 3, to decide whether or not to approve a one-cent local options sales and services tax.

If approved, the one-cent tax would begin April 1, 2009, and last for five years and three months, ending on June 30, 2014. Absentee ballots are now available in the Linn County Elections Office at Westdale Mall. The last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is Friday, February 27. The last day to vote absentee is Monday, March 2. The last day to pre-register to vote is Friday, February 20.

Residents of Bertram, Central City, Coggon and Prairieburg will not be voting on March 3, because a local option sales and services tax already exists in those four Linn County towns.

You can find out polling locations by calling the Linn County Auditor's office at 319-892-5300 or online at the Linn County Auditor website:  www.linncounty.org/auditor.

The March 3 polls will be open from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm at all jurisdictions.
