CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)-- A 31-year-old eastern Iowa man faces first-degree murder charges after police say he killed his younger brother.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department says it got a call at 5:34 Sunday morning about a disturbance in an apartment on the 800 block of 3rd Avenue SW.

When officers arrived, they found Matthew Donald Hanson, 29, stabbed multiple times. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and pronounced dead.

Cedar Rapids Police said officers arrested Matthew's brother Jason Jon Hanson,31.

Jason Hanson made his initial appearance in court Monday morning.  Bond is set a one million dollars.

Hanson's girlfriend's daughter told our reporter she went out drinking with Jason and Matthew Saturday night.  She says the two brothers were excited to see each other, and thinks things just got out of hand during an argument.

A preliminary hearing for Jason Hanson set for February 27th will not take place because of a grand jury indictment filed by the county attorney.

"Here in Cedar Rapids, I just can't even remember the last time that we had two brothers that murdered, one murdered the other. We've had a lot of like, domestic assaults where like two brothers are living together, and they get mad at eachother and assault one another, in this case, they just got carried away," said Sgt. Christy Hamblin with the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Right now, Jason Hanson is in the Jones County jail charged with first degree murder.

The murder happened in a part of Cedar Rapids that was badly flooded last year, leaving many houses vacant.
