Update: Water leak at Black Hawk County Courthouse

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- Officials at the Black Hawk County Courthouse are cleaning up after a water leak on the third floor.

Supervisor Tom Little (D) says he was called by sheriff officials Saturday night around 10 p.m.

He says work was being done at the courthouse Friday, and the hot water was shut off. A stopper was put in the sink of a bathroom, and someone went up to use the bathroom and attempted to turn the cold water on. Later, when the work was being finished up, the stopper was taken out, and hot water shot up from the sink, causing the leak.

Since hot water was leaked out, the humidity caused the fire alarms to go off, alerting officials.

Little tells KWWL the Board of Supervisor's room sustained water damage. Maintenance workers are cleaning up the water leak Saturday morning. Little says everything should be back to normal by Tuesday.

The courthouse and county offices are located on the third floor.
