Snow creates deadly conditions on area roads

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Snow returned to eastern Iowa Friday evening, making travel treacherous and leading to one fatal crash.

Only a couple inches of wet snow fell across the area, but it proved very slippery to drive on. Police reported dozens of crashes and cars off the road across eastern Iowa. Cedar Rapids Police alone responded to 76 crashes in a four hour period Friday night.

The Iowa State Patrol says weather contributed to a crash on Highway 34 in Monroe County that killed 19 year-old Zachary Murray of Ottumwa.
