State representative arrested on OWI

ANKENY (KWWL) - State representative Kerry Burt of Waterloo was arrested Wednesday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Burt was picked up by law enforcement just before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday in Polk County. He was booked in the jail, and later released.

Burt is serving his first term in the Iowa legislature after beating incumbent Tami Wiencek in November.

The Des Moines Register posted a  statement from Burt:

"I apologize to my constituents, House colleagues and all of my friends and family.  I will let the process run its normal course and I will comply with the terms of the court. With the help and support of my friends and family, I will work to assure that I never have a similar incident."
