Iowa City Council to decide on Dodge Street bridge designer

IOWA CITY (KWWL)--  Iowa City officials say a pedestrian bridge project would be a good candidate for funds from the federal economic stimulus package.

Tuesday, the city council will decide if Howard R. Green Company of Cedar Rapids will be chosen to design the pedestrian bridge over Dodge Street on Interstate 80.  The contract would cost the city $169,414.

Public Works Director Rick Fosse says the cost of the bridge is estimated at $1.8 million.

If the bridge is included in the stimulus package, construction would begin this year and take nine months to complete.
