Nearly 100 Dubuque moms to be pampered at annual Spa Day

DUBUQUE (KWWL)-Most of the time, she's a chef, chauffer, nurse, teacher and seamstress.
On Feb. 18, she'll just be a girl.
Nearly 100 women are expected to be pampered and prettied during the annual Spa Day, produced by the local MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) program. The event will be held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and again from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday Feb. 18 at Hope Church, 11893 JFK Road in Dubuque.
During Spa Day, moms will get to enjoy massages, eyebrow waxing, nail care and shopping. Food will be served, along with specialty coffee and a chocolate fountain. Door prizes donated from local business range from restaurant gift certificates and free hair cuts to oil changes and Blue Tooth headsets. One lucky mom will be chosen for a complete Mommy makeover -- complete with hair color, cut, style, wardrobe and make-up - the reveal will take place during the 9:30 a.m session.
Spa Day is one of a range of programs offered by MOPS as it attempts to support and encourage mothers during one of their most life-changing times. About 130 moms regularly attend MOPS during one of the group's bi-monthly meetings: Wednesday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings. All three meetings are designed to assist moms by providing relevant information on topics they can relate to, such as discipline, relationships, time management and self-image. It also serves as a place to connect and meet new friends who are in the same life stage.
This year, an evening MOPS program was added to include daytime working moms. Morning meetings offer childcare as a way to give mothers of young children a break. The group regularly cares for more than 120 children from newborn to age 5 in a preschool-like program.
Reservations are required for Spa Day and childcare space is limited in the morning session. To make a reservation, call 563.513.3322.
