Woman files lawsuit against Cedar Rapids police officer
CEDAR RAPIDS-- A Cedar Rapids woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she was assaulted by a Cedar Rapids police officer.
Theresa Collier claims the officer grabbed her from behind, spun her around and threw her against his patrol car.
The lawsuit, filed in Linn County, names the police department and the city. It says Collier was returning home from celebrating her parent's wedding anniversary on Dec. 19, 2006, when she was approached by the officer who was investigating a vandalism report in the neighborhood.
Collier was taken to jail, strip-searched and held overnight.
The lawsuit claims Collier's civil rights were violated and that she suffered physical and mental injuries.
